December meeting

There were only 7 entries for our Christmas Bag competition which was a little disappointing  but those who entered certainly used imagination and presented interesting work. Vivienne was the evantual well deserved  winner.

Brenda presented the winner with a Christmas Plant.
Carol then introduced our activity. She had made up little packs to help us make a scating boot.

We were so busy that I forgot to take a photo of a finished boot. Our evening concluded with a lovely festive board, organised by our hard working committee.
Welcome to our member’s Christmas Evening and our last meeting for 2017.

Competitions

The Members’ challenge for 2017/18 is “Underfoot” and the closing date for entries is 28 February 2018.  Details are on the noticeboard and they are also on the   EG website, but you need to log into the members’ section.
The Rose Bowl competition, to be judged at the regional day in April 2018, is on the theme of “Our Beautiful North West”.  Our branch has done well in regional competitions in past years so hopefully we will have some good entries next year.

News

100 Hearts
As part of the EG’s plan to bring stitch and textile art to a wider public, they are inviting members to take part in a commemoration of the ending of WW1 a 100 years ago by embroidering a heart inspired by the “sweethearts” made by wounded WW1 soldiers while recuperating from their injuries.  The guild hopes to
Have 20 exhibitions of 100 hearts nationally and a selection from each region exhibited at the Knitting and Stitching shows in 2018, the NEC in 2019 and hopefully other major venues.  Full details are on the noticeboard and on the EG website – log into the members’ section.  If you wish to take part you must complete a registration form by 5 February 2018.  Hearts to be completed by 31 July.

Details of the regional Summer School are on the notice board.  The two tutors are Julia Triston who
came to our regional day at Haigh Hall and Valerie Wartelle who came to our June meeting.
